I've been doing some shooting with my 50mm, my 24-70 f2.8L and my 70-200 f2.8L with the sole purpose of trying to work out which one will cover the New York street scenes, Central Park, the view from 30 Rock, and all the other amazing things I will want to photograph.
My preference was the 70-200mm f2.8L - it gives me lovely, clear images and the zoom can get me that little bit closer when needed. I really wanted to take it. But it's just too heavy. So I started to do some research to work out my alternatives.
I decided I needed to give it a decent test shoot so took it with me on a recent trip to Kangaroo Island and am really happy with the results. I didn't notice the missing f-stop. I did notice, however, my right hand and wrists were a lot happier than when I shoot with my f2.8L.
So it looks like the f4L will be accompanying me to New York. And all the other places I'll be visiting in the next couple of years ... Hong Kong, Scotland, Ireland, Paris, Singapore ... and anywhere else I manage to get to.
